DuraSeal® Dural Sealant Partner: Confluent Surgical Indication: Cranial Durant Sealant Status: Approved in the U.S.

The DuraSeal® Dural Sealant System is the first device specifically designed to seal sutured dura mater incisions following brain surgery to prevent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from leaking out of the incision site. The dura mater is the outermost, fibrous membrane that surrounds the brain and spinal cord, and lines the inner surface of the skull.

Nektar provided a PEG hydrogel for use in DuraSeal® Dural Sealant System using Nektar Advanced PEG (patented polyethylene glycol (PEG) ester solution) in combination with a trilysine amine solution. Together, the solutions form a sealant gel which is absorbed in approximately four to eight weeks, allowing ample time for healing.
